US, Pakistan hold discussion on bilateral ties

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi

Islamabad [Pakistan], Sep 05 (ANI): US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday, met Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to discuss bilateral ties between the two nations.
Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mohammad Faisal took to Twitter saying that the two delegations discussed "bilateral, regional and international issues."
Faisal tweeted, "FM Qureshi underscores the need to reset bilateral ties on basis of mutual trust and respect. Safeguarding Pakistan's national interests will remain supreme priority."
Pompeo later left to meet newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, reported the Dawn.
On being quizzed about his visit to Pakistan, Pompeo told media persons travelling with him that the trip was being made in an effort to reset the bilateral ties between Washington and Islamabad. He acknowledged that there are plenty of challenges to be tackled, and expressed hope that the new Pakistan government would resolve the irritants affecting the relations of both countries.
Pompeo is slated to arrive in India today to participate in the inaugural India-US 2+2 dialogue, which would take place on Thursday. (ANI)
